3rd Conference on Tourism and Handicrafts coming soon

The Minister for Foreign Trade and Tourism, Mercedes Araoz said that our country will host the two most important events in tourism, such as the Third International Conference on Tourism and Handicrafts, from 24 to September 26 and holding in the americas of World Tourism Day on 27 September.

"These events will have an impact at international level. With the organization of the V EU-LAC summit, Peru has demonstrated that it is capable of organizing major international events, now we are presented with this new challenge, which I am sure we will successful thanks to joint work of public and private sectors.

These events are a great opportunity to position to Peru at the highest level of international tourism, "he added.

He said that the Third International Conference on Tourism and Handicrafts aims to strengthen linkages between tourism and handicrafts, leading to expand the possibilities for job creation, income generation and poverty reduction."Convey the progress achieved in making handicrafts globalised tourism product that we all want, with significant benefits to the artisans," he said.

He noted that for Peru the aim is to position itself as a leading country in quality, beauty and exclusivity in terms of craftsmanship."The topics to be discussed are related to policies and development strategies of cultural tourism and crafts; crafts as a tourist resort business, the effect of tourism and handicrafts in local development, innovation, quality design and marketing of the product craft in the tourist market and financing and cooperation for the development of the tourism supply craft."

He added that within the framework of this conference will take place forum "Looking to the Future", which will present future scenarios of cultural tourism and crafts; emerging trends in marketing promotion, marketing of tourism and handicrafts, among others topics.

As speakers will participate internationally recognized experts of Member States to the World Tourism Organization (WTO), international organizations, NGOs and private sector representatives of the tourism industry and handicrafts. The conference will comprise a maximum of 400 participants, 200 of them international and has support from UNDP and UNESCO, UNIDO, WIPO, all UN specialised agencies, as well as IDB and the Spanish Foundation for Innovation of the Craft.

World Tourism Day
Araoz The minister stressed that Peru is the host country in the americas of the celebrations by the World Tourism Day whose theme is "Tourism is facing the challenge of climate change."

"'ll Conduct a series of folk activities and restaurants in Lima and in other parts of the country, as part of this special celebration," he added.

He added that the conclusion by the World Tourism Day, includes a forum for reflection on proposed solutions to the challenge of climate change and government agenda to develop in that area.

"With the support of WTO, will publish the conclusions reached in both events, becoming in this way relating to the management of handicrafts at the international level and in the international tourism sector response to the challenge of climate change" He said.
