Icebreaker, the inventor of the merino outdoor performance apparel category, is introducing an innovative new premium ultralight performance fibre, ideal for wearing in warm weather, for spring/summer 2009.
Icebreaker _GT150 is the latest edition to the Icebreaker _GT range, an advanced clothing system designed for mountain bikers, trail runners and other high performance athletes. It is Icebreaker's most technical and athletic product range.
The system now has four weights - _GT150, 180, 220 and 340 – which gives it extraordinary versatility. Garments can be worn solo in summer, or as a base layer in winter.
Icebreaker _GT150 has 4% Lycra for enhanced shape, fit and garment recovery. The Lycra is wrapped within prime New Zealand merino fibres to ensure wearers still have 100 percent merino next to their skin, preventing any loss in the garment's breathability.
Unlike clammy synthetics, merino is the perfect summer fabric because it turns moisture into vapour and dissipates it gradually through the fibre. Merino acts as a buffer against changing weather conditions, keeping the body at an even temperature.
For advanced breathability and ease of movement, _GT garments have eyelet fabric in high-sweat areas to keep wearers cool in the hottest of conditions.
Special design features include flatlock seams to reduce chafing, and a short collar on zip-neck styles to keep sun off the neck. The garments are cut for an athletic fit, to enable wearers to perform at their best.
Other advantages of Icebreaker _GT fabric for summer wear include the natural anti-bacterial properties of merino, which allow garments to be worn for days without washing. It doesn't itch, feels as light as silk against the skin and is machine-washable.
And, of course, merino is a natural fibre – renewable, biodegradable and sustainably-produced.
