Survey report on technical textile industry to be out next month

The Textile ministry has noted that the survey carried out by the ICRA Management Consulting Services on technical textile industry is expected to get completed by next month. Thereafter, it will form the grounds for the new action plan of the Government to promote the industry.

While speaking at a seminar on Indian Technical textile industry organized by Confederation of Indian Industries, Textile Ministry Joint Commissioner, Shashi Singh told the media, “We are expecting that ICRA will submit its report on Base Line survey of Technical Textile somewhere in September and it will give a clear picture of the industry which will also enable the government to prepare its action plans to develop it.”

This survey undertaken by the ICRA will highlight several aspects of the technical textile industry including the potential size of Indian and global market, the amount of import and export of such products and a lot more.

With this regard, Ms Shashi stated that the global market for technical textile stands at $102 billion and is likely to reach $127 billion by 2010 with US leading the market in the sphere.

Further she also brought forth that India's share in technical textile, which is close to being insignificant, would reach Rs550 billion by 2011-12 from the present Rs300 billion.
