In a statement made to the media, Ms Oinam Thoibi, President of the All Manipur Handloom Cluster Association asserted that there are possibilities of wrong doing in the integrated handloom development scheme offered by the ministry of textiles.
Ms Thoibi gave details saying that there are two groups under the above mentioned scheme comprising 10-15 weavers and a cluster approach made up of 300-500 weavers. A list of 15 clusters was submitted to the director, with the District Industry Centre (DIC) Imphal west which is also the implementing agency. But when the final list was sent forward to the textile ministry it consisted of 19 names other than those forwarded by the association to the Director.
She adding that, “We have discussed the matter with the Director, Deputy Director and the Principal Secretary and have been told that the submitted list was fraudulent.” She also said that the 15 clusters would now be adjusted in the submission.
These actions by the director only shows that if the director was to be the implementing agency, interests of the weavers will not be considered and unless the authentic list of clusters is not re-submitted, they will convey the releavnt information to the minsitry of textiles directly.
