A number of domestic industries have recently sent an application to the Pakistan Tariff Commission, demanding an probe and investigation in to the anti-dumping allegations against polyester fiber imports from China.

In accordance with the relevant provisions of Pakistan anti-dumping laws, the Tariff Commission of the country would review the validity of the applications and will take another 45 days to decide if initiating investigation procedures is required.

According to the Customs statistics of China, export of polyester fiber products to Pakistan fetched about US $60 million in 2007, accounting for 15 percent of the total polyester fiber exports from China.

If the Commission approves of the charges, this would be the first anti-dumping case filed against China by Pakistan since 2007.

So far, protective measures like anti-dumping investigations have been undertaken for 5 Chinese products including footwear and some of them have been confirmed to have indulged in dumping activities.
