Late last month, President Zhang Hanwen of the Taiwan-invested Enterprises Association in Dongguan, met with the Chinese Vice-Premier Wang Qishan to discuss several hot issues.

Mr Hanwen said, on behalf of all Taiwan-funded enterprises, operaating in China are struggling hard to survive.

So far, in Guangdong Province, over 1300 enterprises have been forced to close down.

Mr Hanwen said though Chinese Government increased the export rebate rate of the textile and clothes industry by 2 percent this July, it has not been enough.

Besides, according to the new law, the rate of income tax for Taiwan-funded enterprises was raised from 13 to 25 percent, which was a huge pressure for them.

He stressed that situation still hadn't changed and more and more Taiwan-funded enterprises were on the verge of shutting down.

The President then requested the Chinese Government to replace new laws with the old ones, including labour-laws, rebate rates and other related tax laws.

Vice-Premier Qishan promised to consider this proposal and help these enterprises in anyway they can.
