The current yarn dyeing capacity of Jiangmen Kam Fung Fibre Technology is between 80-100 tonnes every day, and the operation has grown to this size in a very short space of time, explained Paul Wong, sales manager for Union Trading (China) Ltd., which is the Thies representative in the region responsible for marketing and after sales coordination.

“When the company first decided to move into yarn dyeing in 2002, it opted for the MPS system from the outset,” he said. “There are also plans for further expansion here, but the company has put them on hold until the time is right.

“At present it is waiting for a business upturn, with orders from the USA particularly down at the moment due to the present economic climate.”

Victory City, however, had 2007 sales of HK$3.9 billion – an increase of 37% on sales achieved in 2006.

The company was founded in 1983 by textile industry veterans Li Ming Hung and Chen Tien Tui, initially with the Kam Fung bleaching and dyeing factory in Hong Kong. Kam Fung, which was principally engaged in the bleaching and dyeing of knitted fabric for local garment manufacturers.

In September 1991, the group took over Xin Luo Towel Factory, in Xinhui City, Guangdong Province, Cina, and following further expansion was publicly listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 1996.

Today, Victory City has over two thousand employees engaged in its core businesses of fabric knitting, bleaching, dyeing and finishing services and the production and sales of finished knitted fabric. It is also now engaged in the sourcing and exporting of garments through another subsidiary, Ford Glory International Limited.

Since further investment in September 2006, Victory City has had a knitted fabric production of 15 million pounds each month, which has contributed to its strong turnover and profits up 22% to HK$305.5 million in 2007.

In addition, garment factories in Jordan, Indonesia and in Xinhui commenced full-scale operations during 2007.

The company now has 250 employees in Hong Kong and Macau, 1,200 in Jordan, 1,150 in Indonesia and around 7,860 in China

The production and sale of knitted fabrics and dyed yarns at Xinhui remains the principal operation of the group, responsible for 67% of sales in 2007.

At the moment in China, stringent environmental protection measures and rising operating costs have recently exerted pressure on small players, leading to a consolidation of the fabric industry.

This has in part enabled Victory City to increase its market share.

In addition to the most modern production equipment, the company has its own coal-fired electricity plant and is also equipped with sufficient and up-to-standard effluent discharge facilities.

Anticipating the further tightening of China's environmental protection measures and to cater for future capacity expansions, the group has invested over HK$150 million to enhance and upscale the existing effluent discharge facilities with the installation of new wastewater recycling system and effluent treatment plant.

As a consequence, the volume of effluent discharge at the Xinhui factories has been significantly reduced.

A new knitting factory is also currently under construction at the Xinhui production base, which will increase production by a further 50% – proof that the company is in for the long haul.
