Merchants reported on small to minor turn over during the reported week. Some merchants said they had received a sufficient number of enquiries, which mainly applied to near dates, others only marginal.
Although prices decreased by 2 to 3 cents/lb. during the past week, short-term demand could hardly be met since the origin, especially Central Asia, was lacking the preferred level of quality (middling and better).
Merchants registered numerous enquiries for ELS/LS-descriptions for mostly near dates, as well, but just a few contracts were closed.
Descriptions from Central Asia and Greece were sold for prompt delivery. West African cotton was ordered for near dates as well as for the 4th quarter 2008.
The immediate need for ELS/LS was satisfied by Egyptian Giza 86.
