The Spring Air Company said that Bob Hellyer has resigned as chief executive officer and that Executive Vice President of Sales Kevin Damewood and Chief Operating Officer Steve Cumbow will jointly lead the company under a newly formed Office of the Chairman, reporting to the Company's Board of Directors.

"We greatly appreciate the contributions Bob made to revamp the product line and institute a vision of quality, service and value in the organization.

We felt that Bob's strong suit was his ability to communicate that vision and appreciate his service to our company," said Michael Michienzi, who is the non-executive chairman of the Company's Board of Directors, and a principal at the Company's largest shareholder, American Capital Ltd.

Under the new structure, Damewood will oversee sales and marketing for the company and Cumbow will supervise finance, manufacturing, logistics and administration.

The Company had recently begun a chief executive search process and is in the process of speaking with several candidates from inside and out of the mattress industry for the role.

Damewood is one of the most seasoned sales executives in the mattress industry, serving in senior positions with Simmons and Sealy during a career spanning nearly 25 years. He spent time on the retail side of the business as a buyer for Davison's and Zyre Corp.

Cumbow joined Spring Air in July of this year as chief financial officer. Prior to joining the company, he was chief financial officer of NewStar Com a $300M electrical contracting business.

Prior to that post, he was Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of SIRVA's ($1.2 billion) Moving Services division, which included North American Van Lines, Allied Van Lines and Global Van Lines.

Earlier in his career, he held senior finance positions here and abroad at Alliant Foodservice, Hewlett-Packard and Arthur Andersen.

The remaining members of Spring Air's leadership team include: Senior Vice President of Manufacturing Jan Wettergren, Senior Vice President of Supply Chain Management Al Podratsky and Senior Vice President of Human Resources Greg Moore.

Founded in 1926, The Spring Air Company is one of the world's largest mattress manufacturing companies with more than 800 employees in nine locations.

Its well-known consumer brands include: Back Supporter Classic, Back Supporter Four Seasons, Nature's Rest and Chattam & Wells.
