At a function organized on September 12, to give away benefits under the Textiles Workers Rehabilitation Fund Scheme (TWRFS), Mr Shanker Sinh Vaghela, Union Minister for textiles stated that he would put up the issue of minimum support price for silk cocoon growers of Karnataka before the Union Cabinet.

TWFRS is essentially a government scheme that aims at providing relief to workers of closed textile mills. The amount of monetary relief is equivalent to wages of 18 months. The Centre had sanctioned Rs90 million to Binny Mills under the scheme.

The Minister also cautioned former workers of the closed textile mills against being misguided by middlemen and agents and warned them to refrain from paying anybody to avail benefits under the TWRFS scheme. Mr Vaghela also provided 206 workers of the Binny Mills with Rs7.6 million and offered the consolidated cheque to be deposited into the respective accounts of the workers.

The remaining workers of the mill have also been promised similar benefits in a short period of time on receipt of duly completed applications.
