Bam is a city in Kerman Province of Iran and is listed among the world heritage site of The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

In order to uplift the city after it was badly hit by earthquake few years back, the cultural office of the UN organization has allotted nearly US $15,000 to develop the handicraft industry.

The purpose behind allocating this fund is to revive various art forms which are slowly fading away. The authorities wish to train artisans living in Kerman Province who can later earn their living by making handicraft items.

This one of its kind programme will help innumerable forgotten Iranian arts and crafts come alive through holding various workshops for enticing global buyers. The UNESCO officials will also explore various possibilities that can help craftsmen take up craft making as a full time occupation.
