T&G industry awards its best performing enterprises

As many as 51 enterprises of textile and apparel industry were short listed for the “Typical enterprises of Vietnam's textile and garment industry 2008” contest.
These included Viet Tien Garment JSC, Viet Thang Knitting JSC, Coast Phong Phu JVC, GARCO 10, Nha Be Garment JSC, Scavi JSC, Hoa Tho Textile and Garment Group, Sai Gon 3 Garment Company and Thai Tuan Textile and Garment JSC.
Another 41 enterprises were awarded with the title in different spheres like business effectiveness, growth rate, export, domestic market penetration, strong brand name, good labor relationship, good environmental management, etc.
Mr Le Quoc An, President of Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association and leader of the organization board that hosted the event, said that selection was done on the basis of the perfomance of companies in each of the parameters.
For instance, highest turnover title was awarded to Tainan Spinning Ltd which had a turnover of VND 2,638 billion and the highest profit of VND208 billion. Similarly, Viet Tien JSC was recognized as the largest exporter fetching US $157 million and for having the most number of shops totaling to 12,140. In fact, the company has been identified as a typical enterprise for the past five consecutive years since 2004.
The Vietnam Textile and Garment Industry had about 2,500 enterprises with more than 2 million workers until 2007. Export turnover reached $7.8 billion which was nearly 2.2 times higher when compared to 2004. Last year Vietnam's textile and garment industry stood tenth in the world's top 10 apparel exporters list, but is aiming to be among the top five in the curent year.
