The most coveted fashion and art show in New Zealand, Montana World of Wearable Art (WOW) Awards 2008, will begin from tomorrow and will continue till October 5 in Wellington. This time Indian designers are all set to grab the attention of global glitteratis who would be present at the venue.

The designers that plan to steal the show include the likes of Manish Arora who will showcase his mesmerizing Butterfly Dress, Pooja Bedi and NP Jayaraj with their 'Emerald Tentacles', Pooja Gosain who will present 'I the Centre' and Pooja Rajput with 'Cockroach Bra'.

Swarovski crystal-bejeweled hand embroidered 'Butterfly Dress' by Manish Arora features more than 1,000 butterflies sewn by 10 artisans and will be a part of a static exhibition. The outstanding garment will later be kept in the foyer of WOW museum in Nelson for six months for onlookers to witness a rare piece of art.

Out of the seven designs created in coordination with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) in collaboration with Tourism New Zealand (TNZ), three have been short listed for their creativity, innovation and theatrical impact.

This year World of Wearable Art Ltd signed a MoU with FDCI to encourage and promote young and upcoming design students of India on international level. The response was overwhelming as the selected designers come from different institutes. Jayaraj and Bedi are from Pearl Academy of Fashion, Gosain from NIFT and Rajput from SNDT College.

Along with the Indians, many foreign designers from countries like Britain, US, Canada, Japan, Thailand, Germany and Israel will also present their exclusive works here.

WOW is held every September and attracts more than 33,000 art and fashion lovers. This will be the 20th successful edition of the show.

Its distinct concept where designers are encouraged to create unique garments makes it different from the usual shows. Designers make use of materials like car parts, fishhooks and business cards for creating outfits or in short anything available under the sky.
