TenCate – Union Protective Fabrics Asia Ltd, the recent venture company between Royal Ten Cate of The Netherlands and Thailand's Union Textile Industries announces its plan to serve the Asian markets with high performance fabrics for work wear, that will improve the safety of the work environment in the broad Asian region.

President and CEO of Royal Ten Cate, Mr L. de Vries said during the joint venture press conference that, with the growing interest in the protective fabrics industry, the company sees the increasing need for safety of the Asian work environment, and better protection of working people against the hazards at work, like fire, heat, chemicals et cetera.

Those aspects are the immediate cause TenCate has established the joint venture with Union Textile Industries, under the name Ten Cate – Union Protective Fabrics Asia Ltd.

TenCate is globally active in functional materials. De Vries: “Our technology driven materials have the ability to change industries, to improve the quality of life and to provide protection to people and the environment.

In Europe and North America TenCate is a leading company in protective fabrics. Our vision is that being actively present in Asia will enable us to serve the Asian markets with work wear.

Our joint venture is the first activity of a non-Asian company in protective fabrics for work wear in the emerging Asian world. As a global market leader in this field, TenCate intends to be actively involved in the latest developments in Asia”.

The President and CEO of Royal Ten Cate also added that many of TenCate's customers have production facilities in Asia. Local supply through the joint venture will, therefore, create cost benefits as well as logistic advantages.

De Vries: “The contribution of TenCate in this joint venture is – amongst others – in know how, technology and in licensing our valuable brand names for work wear, such as TenCate Tecastyle and TenCate Tecawork.

The plant and production facilities of the joint venture with a size of approximately 11,000 square meters are located in the Samutprakan province.

The joint venture has started its operation since August 16, 2008 and has a workforce of approximately 200 employees.
