ECHA Board elects Dr. Thomas Jakl as its new Chair

The Management Board of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) elected the Austrian member Dr. Thomas Jakl as its new Chair at the Board meeting in Helsinki on 24-25 September. He also chaired this Board meeting.
Mr Jakl is heading the Chemicals Policy Department of the Austrian Ministry of Environment and was also head of the Austrian delegation in the negotiation process on the REACH Regulation, in particular during the Austrian EU Presidency 2007. Mr. Jakl has broad experience in international chemicals policy and was a member of ECHA Management Board from the start.
The Management Board also adopted two key documents of the Agency: the Work Programme 2009 and the Multi-Annual Work Programme for 2009-2012.
In line with the Agency's transparency policy, the Multi-Annual Work Programme will be made available for public comments on the Agency's web site as soon as it will have been translated into official EU languages.
