The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), will be receiving monitory assistance of nearly Rs6 billion from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). This aid will be given for upgrading the technological aspect of almost 300 khadi and village industrial enterprises.

Experts related to this field opine that, this help will surely take the potential of the sector to greater heights as the demand of products made from cotton khadi is huge, not only in India but also in global market.

More than 9 lakh workers are associated with khadi industry and till date they use age old equipments which affects the output. Once the new techniques of production are implemented, it is anticipated that the output capacity will increase which will boost the earnings of the labourers.

Earlier KVIC was receiving piecemeal support from the authorities which was not sufficient enough for uplifting the sector. As a result the officials of KVIC approached the Finance Ministry to look into the matter with ADB.

KVIC provides employment to approximately 8.8 lakh people.
