Imports of textile & garment production raw materials surge

In a recent report released by Vietnamese General Customs Department, there has been a down trend in importing materials for local textile and apparel production in the month of August but a surge in the first eight months of 2008.

Vietnam imported US$617 million worth of material and auxiliary materials to serve local textile garment and footwear industry in the month of August 2008. It was 14 percent less when compared with previous month.

Total imports turnover in the first eight months of 2008 has reached to $5.4 billion, which is up by 18 percent as compared to first months of 2007.

At the end of August 2008, the country imported from China worth $1.35 billion, Taiwan $1.1 billion, Korea $902 million, Hong Kong $493 million and Japan $339 million etc.
