The Foreign Trade Committee, Brazil recently approved a resolution to effect additional tariffs on imports of Viscose staple fibre imported from Austria, China and Taiwan. The extra duty to be charged is $0.18/kg, $0.39/kg and $0.33/kg from China, Austria and Taiwan respectively.

This new provisional anti-dumping duty will be in effect for a period of six months from October 9, 2008. Fibre2fashion spoke to a spokesperson from the Ministry of External Relations, Ms Camilo Prates who said “Brazil has been investigating claims related to dumping of Viscose fibres by Austria, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Thailand.”

She added by saying “These are only provisional measures, implemented in accordance with article 7 of the WTO agreement on anti-dumping and there are no definitive measures yet. The investigations began in March, 2008, but there still has not been a final result or decision.”
