Intl recession fails to deter Christmas sales

Christmas season kicked off two weeks ago and garment industry of Gamarra district in Peru is confident of registering healthy sales.

President Diógenes Alva of Coordinating Committee of Gamarra Entrepreneurs assured that the international economic slowdown has not affected the demand during festive season.

He stressed that that sale of Gamarra by the end of the year would amount to more than US $1.2 billion, a 20 percent increase compared to last year.

Infact, the clothing companies of the district are aiming to attract one million customers during the two months of November and December this year.

Gamarra has already has orders from countries like Ecuador, Bolivia, Venezuela, Chile and even to the US.

The President also said that the joint effort between textile entrepreneurs and local authorities has helped to improve security and infrastructure in Gamarra, leading to smoother and effective trade.
