It was learned that Idemitsu Kosan Co, third-biggest oil refiner in Japan, has cut down the production capacity of two of its naphtha crackers since November 1, 2008.
Confirming the news to Fibre2fashion, company sources said that naphtha crackers Chiba and Tokuyana will now be working at 75-80 percent of operating capacity.
While the Chiba plant has annual ethylene capacity of 3,74,000 metric tons, the Tokuyana facility is worth 6,23,000 metric tons.
Official stated that the key reason for this cut down is slow demand due to global economic downturn.
Insiders informed that both plants will not work in full capacity atleast for next 60 days.
