Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) along with Nigerian Textile Manufacturers Association (NTMA) has urged the Government authorities to take the matter of Chinese counterfeit products seriously.

This became the chief topic of discussion at the recently held forum, organized by the National Union of Textile, Garment Tailoring Workers of Nigeria in collaboration with Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FEF).

The organizations claimed that the products which are actually made in China, are stamped with 'Made-in-Nigeria' or 'Made-as-Nigeria' seals, so as to mislead the consumers.

Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) and Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS) trademarks are also being forged.

Executive Secretary of NTMA, Mr Paul Olarewaju, stressed that such fake products, especially textile and garment items, are flooding the markets of Ibadan, Kano, Lagos, Niger Republic and Onitsha, and adversely affecting the local industries.

The MAN and NTMA delegates here also stated that imports should be strictly monitored as many Chinese goods are being smuggled in, especially through land-routes.
