Exquisite handicrafts at Shilpa-2008

National Craft Council (NCC) in association with Sri Lanka Industrial Development Board, has organized Shilpa-2008, the handicraft exhibition, at Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), will remain open for the visitors till tomorrow.

Artisans from across the country are showcasing their exquisite craftsmanship, with the intention to attract buyers both locally and internationally.

Around 200 booths and a huge handicrafts sales outlet is installed for retailing of handicraft products in this four day event.

Artist who won merit awards at the regional levels are showcasing their creations at the exhibition. Around 1000 award winning handicrafts are being displayed at the exposition.

Onlookers are appreciating the efforts made by the craftsmen. Experts are of the opinion this expo is a platform to boost the morals of the artisans.

Shilpa-2008 is organized with the aim to give a fillip to the cottage industry and slash down the intervention of the middlemen for the sale of handicraft products.
