Piala Seri Endon paradise for batik lovers

For those people who are related to batik, fashion, handicraft and soft furnishing industries, the Piala Seri Endon, is an ideal place of exposure for budding designers to showcase their crafts.

The grand finale of Piala Seri Endon batik design competition, is held at Merdeka Hall of the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur recently.

The queen of Malaysia, Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah presented the prizes to the winners.

Chendering Team, three young artisans from Terengganu won the first prize. They designed formal outfits for both men and women offering a range of colours. The accurate blend of modern batik patterns and traditional block prints mesmerized the spectators.

Second prize was given to Slash Saiful Hassan. His cropped two-tiered empire-line silver-grey dress with blue geometric lines and whorls is at par with any international designer's creation. The men's line including the cropped jacket with a unique shawl and matching up-turned trousers presented an extraordinary touch that was soft and elegant.

Hayden Koh Chean Peng and Chloe Ng Huei Teng took home the third prize. Their collection was based on ethnic designs from a place called Arusha in Africa. A creation of strong blue base with prints that looked like an adaptation of batik, using acrylic paint appeared to most attractive.

The competition was organised by Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia with the Batik Guild under the Malaysia Batik – Crafted for the World movement, which was started by Datin Seri Endon Mahmood, the late wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
