The history of handloom weaving goes back over many centuries and it is to the credit and the resilience of a group of hard core enthusiasts that is helping the art survive despite rapid industralisation.

So it was heartening to note that the Handloom Weaving and Spinning Group based in Manor, Sheffield has been given a cash grant by the Grassroots Grants programme. The group is involved in teaching the art of using a handloom, which could help in saving the art from ultimate demise.

This vital grant will support the group for the next two years. Members of the group learn the art of weaving and spinning by sharing and gaining knowledge with each other.
