Workers all set to get revision in minimum wages

The workers in Nepal are set to get a wage revision, what with the Labour Advisory Committee supporting the agreement between industry owners and workers on the question of increasing the minimum wages. A meeting of the committee chaired by Mr Lekh Raj Bhatia, Minister for Labour and Transport endorsed the proposal.
According to the agreement, the minimum monthly wages for a highly skilled worker would be Rs 4,950, for skilled Rs 4,760, semi-skilled Rs 4,650 and for unskilled Rs 4,600. It was also decided that this wage revision would not be applicable for the workers of the jute industry.
A task force would be set up to give their recommendations of whether, the news standards of wages should be applicable to the jute industry, since it has to stand up to competition from the Indian jute industry, the suggestions for which would be tendered in a period of 15 days.
Another committee would recommend on likely measures expected from the government to help the labour intensive carpet and garment industry as the impact would be widely felt in these industries too.
