NRF offers solutions & ideas for retailers at Annual Convention

Every industry must act quickly when faced with turbulent economic conditions, and retailers are no different. As the voice of retail, NRF has put together a series of educational sessions and forums during its 98th Annual Convention & EXPO to help retailers make the most efficient spending decisions regarding real estate, store design and even hiring strategies. During the four-day convention, which is being held January 11-14, 2009 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City, guests will hear from leading industry experts and analysts including:

Optimize Your Real Estate Portfolio: Making the Most of a Challenging Economic Environment - Sunday, 1/11, 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Guests will hear from a panel who will explore how to use tools, data and analysis familiar to real estate professionals to best navigate the current economy. Topics include portfolio rationalization, same store sales growth potential and lease concession opportunities.

Deloitte retail experts will discuss the slowdown in consumer spending and what retailers can do to ensure success and better respond to an economic downturn. They will also discuss insights in purchase behaviors and an outlook for spending in 2009.

Operational Excellence in a Down Economy - Tuesday, 1/13, 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
This session provides insight into how retailers can manage the challenge of controlling operating costs and the potential negative impact it may have on their customers, employees and longer term growth options.

In addition to sessions which seek to educate and inform retailers about best decision-making practices during a recession, NRF will also present educational content and original research about global retailing and insight into consumer spending in 2009.

Global Powers of Retailing 2009: Who Shows Promise to Rise Above - Sunday, 1/11, 10:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.
NRF's STORES Media will present, in conjunction with Deloitte, the findings of the Top 250 Global Retailers report, with insights and outlooks for the industry. The session will highlight who's winning in the global economy, despite the myriad of challenges retailers all over the world are facing.
