According to reports, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MINFAL) has not been able to reach an agreement with Monsanto, the American multinational seed manufacturing company. Monsanto is interested in introducing its hugely successful Bt cotton seeds technology in the country and thereby improve the yield.
Commenting on the situation the Minister in-charge of MINFAL, Mr Nazar Gondal said that Pakistan would extend co-operation to Monsanto in the matter which would ultimately increase agriculture productivity.
However while speaking to a spokesperson from Monsanto in Pakistan, the official clarified to fibre2fashion.com that, “till now a decision has not be taken for finalizing the deal, nor is there any negative progress from either side on the deal and we expect the deal to go ahead.”
