Shri Prasad chairs 25th Meeting of Governing Council of NIESBUD

Shri Mahabir Prasad, Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSM) chaired the 25th Meeting of the Governing Council of National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD), Noida.

Shri Prasad while welcoming the Members to the Meeting of the Council underlined the importance the crucial role of the educated/trained persons and those engaged in entrepreneurship in the growth of national economy. The Minister also reiterated the vital role being played by NIESBUD in capacity building of different stakeholders engaged in spreading the entrepreneurial culture among different sections of the Society.

The Minister appreciated the efforts of NIESBUD in enhancing the coverage of its training activities to 6178 persons in 2007-08 vis-à-vis 2178 persons during 2006-07. He also lauded the efforts of the Institute in considerably improving its revenue generation to Rs. 302.56 lakh in 2007-08 from Rs. 200.75 lakh in 2006-07.

Shri Mahabir Prasad expressed the confidence that the self-sufficiency and the surplus of about 8 per cent achieved by the Institute for the first time during the year 2007-08, will be sustained over a period of time as per the Government's guidelines for running autonomous institutions like NIESBUD.

The members of the Council were informed by the Additional Secretary & Development Commissioner (MSME), Shri Madhav Lal that the productivity of the employees of the Institute increased to Rs. 6 lakh during 2007-08 as compared to Rs. 4 lakh during 2006-07 under the existing able leadership and support and guidance of the Ministry.

NIESBUD an apex national level Institute under the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) is engaged in promotion and development of micro, small and medium enterprises including enhancement of their competitiveness through training and research interventions.

The Meeting was inter-alia attended by the representatives of the Public Financial Institutions, Non-Governmental Sector, Associations of MSMEs in addition to the senior officials of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
