India ITME evolves into platform for new technologies

INDIA ITME 2008 was organised by the ITME Society in Bangalore from 15-22 November 2008. The Inaugural function was held at the Conference Room of BIEC at 11.00 a.m. on Saturday, 15th November 2008.
Shri Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu, Chairman, India ITME Society welcomed Hon'ble Shri Shankersinh Vaghela, Union Minister of Textiles, Shri S.M. Krishna, MP, Chief Guest and Hon'ble Shri Shekhar Gulihatti, Minister for Textiles & Youth Services, Guest of Honour.
He was glad to have for the inaugural event three accomplished individuals whose works have transcended barriers and enabled the cause of the common good. In this context he referred to the telling inscription at the Vidhana Soudha which says “Government's work is God's Work” which laid down the moral responsibility for any governance.
In his address he mentioned that India ITME Society organised a global exhibition of textile machinery every 4 years since 1980. Over the decades INDIA ITME event had evolved from being a mere exhibition space for sellers and buyers to meet to a cutting edge platform where future technologies are demonstrated well before commercialisation.
All major textile machinery manufacturers of the world participated in the India ITME Exhibition. The exhibitors both foreign and Indian had exhibited their products in 28,500 sq. mtrs. The BIEC was not only spacious but also fully supported by utilities and other auxiliary services like business lounges, conference centres and food courts.
Referring to the economic down turn he mentioned that every coin had another side and so does this recession. World-wide population increase and the demand for textile products may remain steady although the purchasing power may go down.
This essentially means that a lot of textile manufacturers are going to plan for products that have quality but hit the markets at affordable prices. The challenge for the textile machinery industry then would be to build equipments and machinery that meets this strict criterion.
India ITME would become the apt forum where answers for various challenges faced would be found out. The spinning sector was going to display futuristic developments in Ring Frame, Compact Spinning, Open End Rotors, while the Weaving Sector would be demonstrating shuttleless, high speed, water jet and air jet looms.
The Finishing Sector would showcase advancements that give excellent value addition, while the various Testing Equipments, R&D products, developments in knitting, pre-spinning and pre-weaving on display aim at modernisation and cost cutting.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Hon'ble Shri Shankersinh Vaghela, Union Minister of Textiles. He appreciated the efforts of the India ITME Society in organising the exhibition at a time when the economic conditions were adverse. He advised that the Indian textile industry should not get bogged down by the prevailing textile recession.
