Being an Indian, surely you are aware of Ambar Charkha of Gandhiji. But can you imagine Charkha running on solar energy?
Yes, this amazing innovation was done by Mr Dharmendra Kadia, HoD of University Science and Instrumental Centre (USIC) of Gujarat Vidyapeeth.
Speaking exclusively to Fibre2fashion.com, Mr Dharmendra Kadia said that even today weaving has its own significance in people's lives. Taking this in account, Suraj Charkha has been invented which works through solar energy.
Mr Dharmendra Kadia stated, “This Amber Charkha works on two way theory. A solar panel is kept to convert sunlight into electrical energy. A 37 Watts Photo Voltic Penal is utilized here. 12V / 40 AH battery is used for storage of electrical energy. This mechanical energy is then transferred and stored in battery. This can be used according to our requirement. The cost of two track Amber Charkha is Rs2500. The cost of Solar penal, Battery & Controller comes at around Rs12,500 and total cost of installation is nearly Rs15,000.”
This Amber Charkha, can be used to produce 2 pair of garment after two hours of working on this device.
During day time Suraj Charkha can easily work on solar energy. It can also run manually. One can also attach it to battery.
