The prices for various raw materials were moving down ward during the past few months and the situation is deteriorating day by day. Experts opine that weak demand from Benzene related industries would continue to confine the increase of production capacity in the first quarter of 2009.

Today, in the Asian Benzene Market, prices were lowered to US $320-$330 per ton FOB Korea in line with the steep fall in crude values. A dip has been observed in the offer prices for March shipments that stood at $315-$338 per ton FOB Korea.

In the European region, on January 8, benzene prices dropped to the level of $260-$280 per ton CIF ARA (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Antwerp), down $10-$20 per ton from the opening session in the morning due to fall in crude prices. February bids remained at $300 per ton CIF ARA.

American Benzene prices for January slipped slightly lower, with offer prices stood at around 84-93 cents per gallon FOB, USG (US Gulf) compared with 85-95 cents per gallon a day earlier.
