Manufacturers hike VSF & PSF prices in April

In the month of March, Viscose Staple Fibre (VSF) prices had grown by Rs 3 per kg and Polyester Staple Fibre (PSF) prices had remained flat. However in the month of April, prices of both VSF and PSF have been hiked.

VSF prices have grown by Rs 2 per kg to touch Rs 104 per kg while that of PSF inched upwards by Rs 1 per kg to reach Rs 58.25 per kg. These hikes had earlier been expected by the markets, though are on the lower side than anticipated.

Crude oil prices have been on the ascent in March and had touched US $50 per barrel for the first time in 2009, so the hike in polyester intermediates was inevitable. But since the softening of crude oil prices, the hike in PSF prices has been marginal.

Viscose blended yarns prices as well as sales have been moving northwards due to which the industry was expecting VSF prices to zoom by Rs 4 per kg in April, an increment of Rs 1 per kg over and above the hike of March, but still expect them to rise in the next month.
