SF Dyes conducts seminar on 'New Trends in Garment Processing'

To fight the economic downturn, manufacturers all over the world are looking at new and more competitive ways to retain existing customers as well as add new ones.

In an effort to add value to the Indian Garment Processing Industry, SF Dyes Pvt. Ltd has arranged a series of visits by world renowned experts to share their experiences. As part of the initiative, this seminar which focuses on “New Trends in Garment Processing” was held on 8th April 2009 at The Park Plaza, Ludhiana.

The Key note speaker was Mr. Peter Maier of Lilienweiss GMBH (Germany), an authority on Textile processing. He shared his experiences & offered creative solutions to specific customer challenges. The Seminars was attended by renowned personalities from the Ludhiana Garment Industry who also presented their views on the various issues affecting the Industry.

Peter Maier, is a Diploma Textile Engineer (FH), Finishing and Chemistry. He started his career as Assistant Production Manager, Joker Jeans Jurgen Bernlohr GmbH, Germany in garment finishing, responsible for the product and process development. He later joined BASF AG, Germany as Technical Marketing Indigo and then Dystar Textilfarben Deustschland GmbH, Germany for Technical Marketing Indigo. He is currently the Head of Product Development and Quality Control at Lilienweiss GmbH – Textile Services, Germany and is responsible for the product development & consultancy for the denim production, textile chemicals, textile machinery and garment manufacturing industry.

He has 12 years experience in the textile dyes & chemical industry, the Denim production and the garment finishing industry, research on the analysis methods and process control systems in indigo dyeing and denim finishing; He is a Lecturer and reviews on “ Modern denim and Jeanswear dyeing and finishing technology” He has set up a textile testing laboratory and denim expert training center at Lilienweiss Textile Services in 2007 including analysis methods, modern garment finishing techniques, training and seminar facilities.
He has done a lot of research work on dyeing with indigo and several patents publications and awards to his credit.

The garment dyeing and finishing industry in India and worldwide is struggling in the current environment where:
- the fashion industry is always requiring shorter response time in the development of colors and finishes

- the order size is decreasing under the current market situation and simultaneously the number of collections are growing to 6 or even 12 per year causing higher costs for development

- New effects and finishes are labor intensive causing high costs or requiring expensive machinery and equipment

- The quality requirements are becoming more and more strict

- The water, energy and labor cost have increased remarkably
