MEGATECH Pakistan 2009 – a successful event

Pakistan - the fourth largest textile and garment exporter of the world - has 7.6% of the spinning capacity in the Asian region and has 5% share of the cotton yarn produced globally.

Pakistan has an excellent synergy of quality cotton and textile technology which leveraged the successful development of textile industry in Pakistan. Pakistan textile exports contribute more than 46% to GDP employing 39% of the total manufacturing workforce. Currently, the textile exports of Pakistan stood at US$ 10.46 Billion in 2008 (Jan-Dec).

The textile industry of Pakistan is undertaking serious efforts for the development of value added exports and taking various initiatives to explore new business opportunities in technical textiles.

Show Overview
The 7th edition of the International Machinery Exhibition of Garment and Textile Technology – MEGATECH Pakistan 2009 was successfully held from 3rd to 6th March, 2009. The exhibition witnessed an encouraging participation of local and international textile and garment machinery manufacturers,distributors and importers. The show was well attended by leading textile and garment manufactures, decision makers and senior government officials.

Inaugural Ceremony
The honourable Minister of Textile Industry, Mr. Rana Mohammad Farooq Saeed Khan, was the Chief Guest at the Inauguration Ceremony. The opening ceremony was also graced by the presence of Mr. Farkhand Iqbal, Joint Secretary Ministry of Textile Industry; Mr. M. Idrees Ahmed, Textile Commissioner and Mr. Abdul Majeed, Director Textile Research and Innovation Centre and Chairman ATC. The ceremony was largely attended by textile industry professionals, foreign delegates and media representatives.
