Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco) has signed a contract deal with a Denmark based shipping company; Eitzen Gas for shipping up to 110,000 tons of ethylene before the year end. Last year Eitzen had shipped 160,000 tons of ethylene for Quapco.

Eitzen gas has a major expertise in the transportation of ethylene from the Middle East markets to various destinations in Asian and Europe and operates 39 shipping vessels worldwide. Qapco has re-entered the ethylene market following expansion of its ethylene project.

With the expansion, the ethylene production capacity has increased from 535,000 tons to 720,000 tons. Speaking on the occasion, the Director of Qapco, said that they and Eitzen had a long and fruitful relationship.

Divulging details, the Director, Mr Mohamed Yousuf al-Mulla said, “Qapco was fast emerging as a global petrochemical producer and consumes about 400,000 tonnes of its ethylene output a year for manufacturing LDPE”

He also said that, “It supplies 200,000 tonnes of ethylene to its subsidiary Qatar Vinyl Company (QVC) for producing ethylene dichloride and vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) and exports about 120,000 tonnes to international markets”.

“Qapco also produces about 400,000 tonnes of low-density polyethylene every year, marketed under the “Lotrene” brand name and 70,000 tonnes of sulphur, which is generated as a by-product”, he added by saying.

Group General Manager (Commercial & Marketing), Mr Abdulrahman Ali al-Abdulla said efforts were being made to expand the company's global marketing network and now the products reach about 4500 customers in some 85 countries.
