The Minister of Agriculture, Mr Benn, urged the five-star hotels and high end boutiques to help push sales of the West Indian Sea Island Cotton brand to their clientele, since it is considered one of the finest cottons in the world.

He though admitted that there was not a significant market for luxury textile goods in the region, but the products would need to be tailored and designed according to international standards to suit the tastes of the visiting tourists.

He said that Exclusive Cotton of Caribbean Incorporated (ECCI) had a excellent and niche product that best fits the luxury segment and could be promoted more so if they were used by the luxurious hotels themselves.

He added by saying that the sector could sign joint ventures with foreign players in order to promote home textiles and position and brand them to earn the value added in to the product which the country needs.
