China's total textile and apparel exports reached US $34.062 billion in January-March 2009, representing a year-on-year decline of 9.03 percent, though the fall has eased when compared with the decline of 14.54 percent in the first two months.
Among them, textile exports totaled $12.017 billion while apparel exports amounted to $22.045 billion, representing a negative growth of 15.6 percent and 5 percent when compared with the first quarter of 2008.
In March, exports from the sector recorded $12.164 billion, representing a growth of $5.489 billion or 82.23 percent from the previous month, but down $350 million or 2.96 percent year-on-year, which bodes well for the industry.
March textile exports registered $4.732 billion, down 6.35 percent y-o-y and clothing shipments scored $7.432 billion, up 9.92 percent y-o-y reflect the fact that though the situation has not really improved, but they do depict that a turnaround could be just around the corner.
Experts said that although data in March rebounded from previous months, cumulative increase still showed relatively large decline compared with the same period of last year and growth of March textile exports was still in negative territory.
