Canadian trade office to open in Ahmedabad, in spring

Canada is going to open a trade office in Ahmedabad, Gujarat this coming spring. This was disclosed by H.E. Mr. Joseph Caron, Canadian High Commissioner at an interactive session with leading industrialists at PHD Chamber.

Mr. Caron was keen on increasing bilateral economic trade between India and Canada as he felt there was a huge potential, with complimentary needs of both the countries .The key areas where Canada will be keen on India making investments are Environment, energy, training etc.

“The microeconomic India which is the sectoral and local businesses has the maximum potential for growth in bilateral trade between both the countries and Canadian businesses should work at this microeconomic India” said Mr. Caron. “Other important area was the lesser developed India which has a huge potential but not much business is happening”, added Mr. Caron.

Though combined GDP of both India and Canada was to the tune of 3 trillion dollars but India's percentage share of total trade was 0.78 % only. The High Commissioner also said that Canada was strong in areas such as agri sector, financial services, mining, etc and in most of these areas it was not easy to do business in India.

“The total bilateral trade of Canadian $ 4.6.bn between India and Canada was less than one per cent of India's trade with rest of the world and new areas of cooperation could be hydro electricity, agri business, engineering, education, textiles and research”, said Mr. Satish Bagrodia, President, PHD Chamber.
