Seventeen companies from the Brazilian components sector are going to participate at the Exhibición Internacional del Cuero e Insumos, Maquinaria y Tecnología (EICI), to be held from May 27th to 29th in Bogotá, Colombia. The participation of the Brazilian companies in this event is promoted by the Brazilian Association of Companies of Components for Leather, Footwear and Manufactured Goods (Assintecal), with the support of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex–Brasil).

Considering the range of opportunities provided by the exhibition, Assintecal estimates the generation of some US$ 50 thousand in business deals during the event, with the expectation of generating around US$ 600 thousand for the Brazilian market over the next 12 months.

With a space of over one hundred square meters at the exhibition site, the Brazilian sector promises visibility among the visitors. According to the vice president of Assintecal's Foreign Market Dept., Mr. Evandro Kunst, the presence of the components manufacturers at EICI contributes to the promotion of the By Brasil products. “These actions strengthen the image of Brazil as a benchmark in terms of innovation, comfort, and technology", he points out.

The companies participating in the Smart by Brasil consortium, on their turn, will be exhibiting their products and services at the event, presenting the main focus of the group, which is targeted at innovation and technology. The companies of the consortium that will be exhibiting their products and services are: Espugum, Magma, Irmãos Perfeito, Linasita, and Tekbond.

Parallel to the exhibition, Assintecal and the Asociación Colombiana de Industriales del Cuero, Calzado y sus Manufacturas – ACICAM (Colombian Association of Leather, Footwear, and Leather Goods Industries) will promote a technical lecture about the theme “Comfort", given by Harri Elton Berlitz, a consultant working on the Project. The lecture is part of the action plan of the Comfort Project, promoted by both associations, and whose results are to be presented during the next International Footwear and Leather Show – IFLS, scheduled to be held from August 4th to 6th in Bogotá, Colombia.

According to the latest data about the Colombian market, compiled in 2007 by Assintecal's Information System (SISINFO) the bilateral trade between Brazil and Colombia has shown a gradual increase since the 90's. The survey also presents the import / export trade balance between both countries, which amounts to US$ 22,621,849. However, the analysis reveals that this market has a great number of opportunities yet to be exploited by the Brazilian companies.
