China continues to be largest holder of US treasury bills

According to data released by the U.S. Treasury Department, the Chinese Government again increased its holdings in the US treasury bills by US $23.7 billion, in March this year, taking its total holdings $767.9 billion.

This makes China the biggest holder of US treasury bonds by amount from any country since September last year. The holdings, since last March have also increased by $277.3 billion.

A number of countries also increased their holdings in March. Japan stands second with an investment of $686.7 billion. Russia and the United Kingdom surpassed Brazil to become the third and the fourth largest investors.

Hong Kong and Taiwan rank seventh and eighth in total holdings. Hong Kong's holdings increased by $2.6 billion in March, to touch $70.089 billion, while that of Taiwan have reached $74.8 billion.

President of the United States Mr Barrack Obama in a speech had emphasized on solving economic problems and also suggested that the country should not rely on long-term debt from China and other countries.
