Next we asked him to delve on the status of these investments to which he replied by saying, “As far as we are concerned, we are going ahead with our projects and we are confident of implementing the projects with intended investments by the end of the year, but indeed, investment in technical textiles demands an all together a different approach both in production and in marketing, but here again, technical textiles has many complexities and the entrepreneurs have to select machineries, materials, processes, products and markets without getting confused”.

“This is not an easy process and in our opinion, there are serious entrepreneurs, but in all fairness, it may take little longer than anticipated by them to invest in technical textiles but at the same time, investments have not totally stopped. Reliance has already introduced industrial filament yarns and SRF is in the process of producing industrial filament yarns in India and the technical textiles industry in India having lost two and half decades would reach a level of maturity in next 5 years”, he explained by saying.

To conclude the interview we asked him for his opinion on the outlook for the rest of 2009 considering that experts are predicting turnaround only by 2010, to which he said, “There is no doubt, that the greatest global economy of USA has undergone serious problems, perhaps affecting the economy of all the countries over the world, however, in spite of globalization, the Indian economy is reasonably insulated and supported by huge population with an increased standard of living”.

Obviously, the influence of real effects and sentimental effects does not last long and the recent environment is encouraging as the global pipelines for textiles are creating demands and it is our observation that the craze and rush for Chinese products for multi-directional reasons, is declining and this is an opportunity in the changed environment for the textiles sector in India and if we play our cards rightly, we are optimistic in the outlook for the year 2009”.
