At a technical textiles conference organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) held on May 29, Mr Manish Gupta, Director, Ministry of Textiles said that the Union Government has formed a committee to put in place a regulatory framework for usage of technical textile products in different areas.

“The regulatory framework, if implemented could provide a thrust to the technical textiles sector in India and the Ministry of Textiles has laid out 'four mini missions' as part of the national technology mission on technical textiles', he added by saying.

He continued by saying, “We plan to set up four centres of excellence in the field of technical textiles and the eleventh five year plan would directly or indirectly contribute to the development and provide a boost to the consumption of technical textiles in India”.

In a recent study conducted by the government, a consultant had outlined the current market of technical textiles goods at Rs 375 billion and projected that it would reach Rs 640 million by 2012-13 at an average growth rate of 11-12 percent per annum.
