Fashion Industry law firm Cowan, Liebowitz & Latman, P.C. held its fifth annual Fashion Seminar for leaders in the Fashion Industry today. More than 70 members of the Fashion Industry attended the Seminar, which was entitled “R is for Recession (& Recovery)” and covered strategies for surviving the current market downturn, as well as the types of business transactions that are possible in the current market environment.

C. J. Erickson, a member of Cowan, Liebowitz & Latman's Customs, International Cargo and Regulatory Compliance group discussed new apparel safety requirements and cost effective compliance measures.

He was followed by Joel Karni Schmidt, a partner in CLL's Intellectual Property group who discussed recent cases and some steps companies can take to avoid unnecessary and costly lawsuits.

Richard Kestenbaum, of Triangle Capital LLC, a leading private investment banking firm was CLL's guest speaker. He discussed the kinds of transactions possible in today's environment.

The event was moderated by Arlana Cohen, an Intellectual Property Litigation partner at CLL, who suggested that companies carefully review their trademark portfolios and get rid of the dead wood. She also provided an update on the status of the Design Piracy Prohibition Act.
