'Keen to make India top destination for textile goods' – Textile Minister

While on a visit to the apparel export town of Tirupur, the textile minister, Mr Maran said that the textile ministry is keen to make India a destination for textile goods and people visiting India should look at it as a market for buying textile products.
He said, the “Made in India” brand should be promoted aggressively and as a part of the initiative is leading a delegation of exporters to Japan to participate in an international trade fair on July 20.
He also added by saying that exporters should also look at other markets other than the traditional markets of the EU and US like Japan, Brazil, Australia, etc and try to increase their market shares of Indian textile goods in those markets.
He also told the manufacturer-exporters to also concentrate on the domestic markets aas the effects of the slowdown had not impacted the local markets, to the extent it has affected the international markets.
On the issue of infrastructure development in the knitwear town of Tirupur, Mr Maran said that it was his responsibility as Member of Parliament to expedite the implementation of the marine discharge project.
