Textile sector seeks special tariff

Regarding, the high tariffs on textile sector, deep concerns have been expressed, in a textile related meeting among the officials and experts associated with textile industry. Demand for special tariff for the sector has also been put up in the meeting.
The situation of Pakistani textile sector and the problems faced by it due to energy crises were also discussed in the meeting. Conversation about the matters related to Bt cotton and R&D had also been made during the meeting.
The Federal Minister was appraised in detail regarding matters related to banks by the participants, at the meeting, who gave a number of proposals and suggestions to overcome the crises witnessed by textile sector.
Citing this sector as the most important sector of economy, the Federal Minister said that remedial steps would be taken according to the proposals and suggestions given by the participants to resolve the issues in textile sector.
As it is an export oriented sector, problems related to it will be resolved on a priority basis, the Minister committed to the participants. A power unit of 250 MW being installed in Faisalabad, would provide relief to the textile sector, which would be operational by the end of this month, informed an expert.
Moreover, to resolve the maximum number of issues related to textile industry on the priority basis, different meetings with NEPRA, WAPDA, OGRA, Governor State Bank and Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture would be arranged soon.
All the textile related matters would be resolved in consultation with stakeholders, assured the federal Minister, informing that the textile policy is ready and soon would be presented in Cabinet for approval.
