Exports of raw silk in June display improvement in situation

China's exports of raw silk reached 3,994 tons in total from January to June 2009, down 44.8 percent year-on-year; cumulative export value registered US $91 million, down 48.7 percent from the same time last year, according to Customs statistics.
June exports registered 807 tons, up 41.83 percent from the previous month amounting to $19 million, up 46.24 percent from the previous month.
Export situation in the first half was still behind the same corresponding period of 2009 which stood at 7,234 tons and $177 million, respectively. The corresponding decrease in 2009 was to the tune of more than 40 percent.
With the increase in export volume and value in the month of June, the situation seems to have improved considerably. The export volume and value in May had increased by just 0.20 percent and 8.16 percent from the previous month.
