Geosynthetics to be included in Maharashtra Textile Policy, Shri Dandegaokar

“Public Private Partnership approach would be followed to drive the current Rs.227 crore Technical Textiles market to Rs.2000 crore in the next few years”. Hingoli district to get a Textile Park announced the State Textile Minister Shri Jayprakash Dandegaonkar while inaugurating the Conference on Geo-Synthetics: Opportunities and Challenges organized by FICCI. He congratulated FICCI and BTRA for building a platform which created a confluence of Business and Knowledge.
Ministry of Textiles Government of India is in the process of building Centres of Excellence such as NTRA, SITRA, in addition to BTRA in the different parts of the country said Shri. A. He referred to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's emphasis on creating a task force for promotion of technical textiles announced way back in 2007 and reiterated the Governments commitment to the promotion of Geo-textiles in India.
While giving a rundown on the MMRDA projects in Mumbai, Smt. Ashwini Bhide, Joint Metropolitan Commissioner spoke about the tremendous opportunities in Geosynthetics that would be created in the next few years especially in Mumbai. She mentioned about the first ever mono-rail project, solid waste management, constructing public toilets, roads, bridges and a state-of the-art technology to make Mumbai a world class city.
While delivering a brilliant keynote address, Mr. Kusumgar, CMD Kusumgar Pvt ltd, explained the importance of technical textiles in roads, rail, aviation, river beds, agro tech, medi-tech and a host of other areas. He also compared Indian tech text industry to the advanced countries and said that now sufficient awareness has been created in India. There is a need to move on to the more sophisticated methods and processes to build infrastructure through Geo-synthetics
Dr. Desai, Director Bombay Textiles Research Association (BTRA) said that companies will check on the techno- economic viability of the Geo- synthetic products before they use it for their business. He shared the findings of his rich two decade long research at the centre of excellence and assured his commitment to the cause of technical textiles in India.
While stressing the potential of Geo-synthetics in driving the infrastructure sector profitably, Mr. Sushil Jiwarajka Chairman, FICCI-WRC, made a number of recommendations. He said India's consumption of technical textile is 0.4% of the world consumption. Considering India's highly skilled and scientific/technical manpower, abundantly available raw materials, India can play a major role in technical textiles market of the world.
