Emerging opportunities with smart e-textiles featured at IFAI

Despina Papadopoulos is the founding director of Studio 5050, an interdisciplinary design and production practice based in New York. During her presentation, "Design Innovation and the Development of a Material Culture: Fashion, Tools, Tradition and Experimentation," Papadopoulos reviews ten years of experimentation in the field of wearable technology by examining the intersection of fashion and interactivity, technology and materials as a way to formulate a forward approach.

Brian Russell, CEO and founder of Zephyr Technology, is an expert in analog electronics, communications and physiology. Russell holds three patents in the area of physiological sensing using smart fabric sensors. Russell discusses, "Commercializing a Smart Fabric Sensor - Applications and Lessons," including a look at high volume manufacturing in a multi-supply channel, mutli-disciplined communication, partnerships and how to know when you really have something ready to go to market. www.zephyr-technology.com

Qaizar Hassonjee, Vice President of Development & Commercialization for adidas Wearable Sports Electronics - Textronics, presents "E-textiles - State of the Market." Hassonjee will highlight the recent advances in e-textile technology with a focus on commercial offerings in apparel. Opportunities for future growth will also be reviewed.

IFAI Expo 2009, the largest specialty fabrics trade show in the Americas, will be held at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, Calif., September 23-25, 2009.
