Chinese T&C exports to US clock growth in Jan-July

Customs data reveals that from January to July, China's textile and apparel exports reached US $89.17 billion in total, a year-on-year reduction of 11.15 percent.
Of which, textile exports were $32.27 billion and clothing exports totaled to $56.9 billion, representing a decrease of 14.9 percent and 9.1 percent, respectively.
In the month of July, exports reached $16.37 billion, down 12.35 percent. Of which, textiles marked $5.33 billion and clothing exports clocked $11.04 billion.
Though it represents a decline for the same time last year, but reflects an increase of 8.61 percent and 22.2 percent, respectively, from the previous month.
In the first seven months, year-on-year comparison of textile and garment exports still showed negative growth, leading to fall in both, sales and profits.
According to US Office of Textiles and Apparel, textile and apparel imports of the country declined 9.4 percent from January to July this year.
This decline was reflected in a majority of categories of imports. However, imports of textile and apparel from China increased by a marginal 0.04 percent.
Experts are not optimistic of textile and garment exports in the second half of 2009 and expect shipments from the sector to maintain a monthly decline of 10-15 percent.
