Cotton production has turned around on its heels and almost doubled when compared with the output of the previous year, informed the Minister of Agriculture, Ms Hope Mwesigye.
Giving out details, Ms Hope said that cotton production in Uganda grew by 93 percent to 125,213 bales (1 bale=175 kg), which she said was a direct effect of the government's focus and direct investment.
Uganda had registered a record cotton crop output of 400,000 tons per year in 1971, but after that production has gone downhill since the last 28 years and dropped down to around 67,000 tons last year.
